Video games have always been about community. Games allow people to interact with a story, a concept, or to interact visually with friends, family members, or other participants. In the spirit of games, we at Exeedme believe that if video games are community oriented, they should also be decentralized which allows players to be themselves.

For Q1 in 2021 on our Exeedme Roadmap, we announced that our first launch on the platform would be Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. This launch would give the opportunity for gamers to challenge their friends, family or other gamers on the platform to compete on the game for stakes that are funded with cryptocurrencies like ETH and USDT.

In this article, we want to share why this game was picked for our “pilot game”, why it makes a perfect game to launch with, and how it helps share our methods of bringing decentralized gaming features to gamers all over the world.

So what is Counter-Strike:GO and why are we focused on it as our first game?

What is Counter-Strike: Global Offensive?

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO) is a multiplayer first person shooter (FPS) game that places gamers on one to two teams available in a military style environment. The object of the game is to take down the opposing team while also completing other tasks. The game features nine different playing modes with features like matchmaking and battle royale modes. This is the fourth installment of a gaming series that was first introduced in 1999 based on a modification of a game called Half-Life. Both games were created and developed by Valve.

The statistics surrounding CS:GO are impressive and in-game purchases are commonplace.

The game has approximately 20 million players worldwide. Gameplay allows you to win in-game currency when objectives are finished and opposing teams are defeated. Players also have the ability to buy in-game items like skins. Players originating from the United States alone spend an average of $70 per person on downloadable content (DLC) for CS: GO, making this a very attractive market prone for blockchain disruption. Twitch has reported over 7.4 million hours of content for CS:GO that is streaming on their platform per week. The most recent number of active users at one time on CS:GO is almost 800,000.

The Perfect Pilot

So why is CS:GO our first game? There are a few reasons and some of them are hiding in plain sight.

On a surface level, there are some reasons that make a lot of sense. First, CS:GO has a tremendous user base that can’t be ignored. Over the 20 million users and 800,000 at one time users playing the game, there is already a gargantuan audience that is able to take advantage of a NFT gaming system. In addition to the sheer strength in numbers, the audience target suits the model that Exeedme has been targeting this far — players that want to compete to gain rewards.

Users can play the game to earn assets in game, while Exeedme wants to take this further by making those assets NFTs so they are user-owned and transferable. Exeedme can resolve some of these in game assets as well — while a user on traditional CS:GO can play all day long and technically not earn any substantial rewards, on the Exeedme platform they will still gain rewards (even if they struggle to win some matches) in the form of XED token.

Additionally, the game already has the mission statement of Exeedme built in — to have players in control through community and competition. Players are already placed into teams and matches that enable community and joint activity. This helps to create meaningful and friendly competition while giving everyone a chance to play as they wish. In addition, game matches like battle royale reflect the type of features we wish to offer throughout 2021 as the roadmap becomes a highway for players to experience decentralized NFT-based gaming.

Players can leverage the Exeedme blockchain while they compete to earn XED tokens and NFT incentives.

Community Gaming Done Right

CS:GO is the perfect game for us to start our journey with users on decentralized gaming and NFT game assets. They offer a model very similar to our project character and NFT capabilities match what CS:GO users are already accustomed to. Exeedme is able to leverage blockchain technology to provide these features which can help transform the way players compete and collect items. This is just the start of a long journey and exciting development to transform the gaming industry and give power to its users.

And if this is just the beginning, we feel you will be blown away by what comes next.

Stay tuned to our first-ever CS:GO streamed tournament that will happen by the end of the month!
